The apostoles, who wrote the bible, were never there to see it. If anything, it was all hearsay stuff. It also makes sense because the apostoles met him at age 30; thus why there is absolutely no knowledge about Jesus from the time before. You can't even say that maybe Mary, Joseph, the shephard or the three wise men corroborated this because there is not a single passage written by either. And with the "coincidence" that there were other prophets attributed to having been born from a virgin, like appollonius, it only leads me to suspect that it is something attributed to Jesus rather than something that truely happened.

How do I know I was born? Because I live. Do I know with certainty the story of my birth (what time of day, hospital, etc)? No. The point isn't "was Jesus born?" but rather "was the story given true?"

You are 110% right.

The stories of his birth became important hundreds of years after his death - after everyone around him was already dead as well. But, the writers of hte NT knew one thing - if they were to make Jesus into the Messiah, then he would HAVE TO meet every requirement as laid out in the OT - so they invented the virgin birth (attributing it to the month of December, when he was most likely born around March - June). Many of the initial gospels that were later taken out of the Bible had stories of a child Jesus using his magic to fool friends and turns bullies into cows, etc. This was removed because it didnt fit with the story they wanted to promote...

True, most everything that happened in Jesus's life before His ministry began is speculation. However, the details surrounding His birth are not. The census, the star, the Wise Men, Herrod slaughtering all boys under the age of two in the kingdom, all are true, and DOCUMENTED.
Sure, other prophets may have been born of virgins supposedly, but NONE have touched the world as Jesus has. His apostles testified to all they had seen even when it meant death.
Jesus's ministry must have been something special; otherwise, it would not have even SURVIVED the heavy persecution, much less SPREAD under it.

The account(s) of Jesus' birth would have been part of the oral tradition of the early followers of Christ and not part of the eyewitness accounts of the Apostles.

Certainly, due to the supernatural events, recorded by the four Evangelists, one must bring to the texts more than just a reasoning mind, if one it to conclude that they are true.

That others within the mythology of the ancient world lay claim to virgin births, miracles of healing, resurrections from the dead, really has no bearing on whether or not they occurred in the life of Jesus.

Mary lived with the disciple John, who took care of her as if she was his own mother, as Jesus asked him to. They lived for a long time in what is today Turkey. Efes (Ephesus). Women were not generally taught to write in those days, but it is very likely that much of what was written comes from Mary's testimony.

My favorite is William R's response. Basically no one knows, and therein lies the inherent arrogance of organized religion. (claiming to know things they could not possibly know)

How do we know that you are real? Because, you speak to us, we assume that you are alive and that you were born, and that what you tell us is the truth, as you know/assume/wish it to be.
