during fall, warm colors are good, such as browns and golds---so you could do highlights this season, just stay pretty warm and natural

Since it's still fall and winter is coming up soon, you should go with brown hair. Warm colors are the best during those seasons. As for highlights, I'd get them doen either in the Spring or early summer.
