Yes, I have had 2 Goldens and they are great dogs, especially for a family dog. They typically have wonderful personalities, are very tolerant of kids and the things that kids put dogs thru. They tend to like being with the family indoors, but can tolerate being outside, though both of mine have been indoor dogs. I would recommend having it as an indoors dog, but there is the issue of their hair, they have alot, and they shed. You will have to sweep or vacuum often. They are great companions, and are actually quite often used as service dogs for the blind and handicapped because they are such good dogs.

They are great dogs, but nothing like taking on a yorkie. I have a black lab/golden retriever mix and she is very energetic, sheds all over the place and loves people to the point of being boisterous. I wouldn't change her for the world though. When she is calm she is extremely cuddly and sweet natured. A retriever might be a bit much for a yorkie though. Mine gives my other dog hell and she is bigger ( a Bloodhound).

Golden Retrievers are wonderful with kids, if your children know how to treat a dog. No child should be left "unsupervised" with any dog.
As far as "inside" or "outside", what's the point of having a dog if you're only going to offer it a home "outside"? It isn't fair to the dog. Dogs are "pack" animals and you will be their "pack". They need your companionship.
If you don't plan on keeping a dog in the house, please don't get one.
Best of luck to you.

Friendly, reliable, and trustworthy. Quarrelsomeness or hostility towards other dogs or people in normal situations, or an unwarranted show of timidity or nervousness, is not in keeping with Golden Retriever character. Such actions should be penalized according to their significance.

This question was just asked, check out those answers too okay. Yes when properly socialized. Buy from a reputable breeder who health tests. This breed falls to many illnesses, mainly cancer. Check out the link, educate yourself and have a good long 12+ years with your new pup, when you get it. Then get back on here and ask what to name it.

My Golden LOVES kids. She lives inside, but before we got her, she was an outside dog for 4 years.
She is such a sweetheart--if you get one, you won't ever regret it!!!

yes
they can be inside or outside dogs
the reason most people let them stay out is due to their size
but they are good inside dogs too
any retriever or lab is great with children

Yes they are good with kids if they are bred right, socialized right and trained right.
Goldens that come from irresponsible breeders can be hyper, have health issues and can have bad temperaments.
