16, I wouldn't consider close to an adult.

If you had a daughter your age...in her own apartment(which is dumb anyway) in her bra and thong...would you not be upset. Like your dad wants to think of his little girl half naked with a boy. Grow up. Of course your going to be grounded. And you have 2 years to go until your an adult...and a have a lot of growing up to do. Your parents make the rules..not you. So just give it up.
And why were you kissing someone if you have the flu. Are you into spreading sickness. Something doesn't sound right.

This is why you were grounded:
1. Even though you don't live with your parents, you live right next door under a roof that they, not you, pay for. (and whose bright idea was this anyway?)
2. They do not have to knock. You are their child (not almost-adult, child) and you live under a roof they pay for.
3. You were in your underwear with a boy and you are 16. No, you should not be able to sit around in your underwear with your boyfriend when you are 16. You shouldn't even be alone and unsupervised in your home with your boyfriend, fully dressed. This is why it's not a good idea for you to have your own apartment separate from your parents.
4. That story sounds fishy as all get-out. It was hot, so I just happened to be in bra and thong with boyfriend? Then we just happened to be innocently making out, with me almost naked? Too sick for clothes, but well enough to make out? Please. They walked in on you just before the deed and they know it. I hope they realize that you cannot be trusted with the responsibility of living separate from them, and make you move back in on top of being grounded.

You don't sound like an adult at all. If your parents are still supporting you, you have to follow their rules or move out. Sorry sister, no sympathy from me. And NO, I don't think at 16 you have the right to sit around in your little thong panties at your parents house. (If they pay the bills, it's their house) Why couldn't you have put on a tank and shorts. Have a little respect for your parents. Do you know how hard it must have been for them to see their little girl in her panties making out with some boy? I bet to them it was heartbreaking.
And now poor Vincent has a terrible flu. : (

You are not almost an adult. Your parents support you plain and simple. 16 is years from being grown up. I can tell that just from reading your post that your are not close to being grown up. Your parents can do whatever they please [within legal limits of course]. If they pay your rent and everything else it doesn't make you grown, it makes you spoiled. There is no reason why you should have your own apartment at your age. You're lucky, you're parents obviously care about you and I think you're being a bit ungrateful. But hey, you won't see it that way.

Since you are not paying your own rent and having a boy over at the age of 16. I agree with your parent that you are grounded. Don't do something bad that your parent will take away your privileges. You are lucky to have your own apartment, you should learn how to be responsible!

I think it's justified. 16 is not an adult, especially if you don't understand how bad it looks you were sitting with a guy in a bra and thong. You're only mad, you're grounded. That's a good sign you have a lot of growing up to do.

you are still 16 not quit an adult you got about 2 more years, & they are your parents, & they do pay your rent until you get a job to pay for your own rent I would say that yes they can ground you, you should have locked the door!

I'm all for freedom and being able to choose for oneself, especially if you live in your own place. But, I'm afraid the keyword here is "almost". Your parents probably jumped to conclusions, and punished you in an attempt to protect you. I'd do the same thing if I found my daughter in the same circumstance as you (and I don't even have kids...).
