If this dog has been mico chipped, I wonder who actually did it because a reliable vet would scan any dog before it was chipped and even if he was told that it wasn't chipped and the dog had been given to the new owner, he would certainly have to scan it after the micro chipping to see if the new micro chipped worked so it is strange that your micro chip was not detected! Have you tried ringing Petlog now for advice? Why can the police do nothing if you are identifying this dog as yours and believe it still has an existing micro chip in it? This man cannot have got the dog from kennels as the first thing that happens is that strays are scanned for chips...he is lying obviously...do you know how long this man has had your dog? Have you thought of seeking advice from the citizens advice bureau or a getting a solicitor to send a letter threatening court action if he does not allow you to get a vet to re scan the dog for the existing chip.

I don't know where you live or what the laws are there. That's such a shame and it must be very frustrating. I'm so sorry to hear that.
I'm not sure I understand, did you contact the police and they told you they can't do anything? If your dog was microchipped it should be on file. The fact that he had her microchipped again should be proof that he wasn't the original owner.
If he had acquired your dog honestly, he would simply have notified whoever runs the registry and changed the name and address.
You might need an attorney to help you with this. I don't know how much it might cost or if you can afford it. If the authorities can't help you, that might be your only other alternative.
I'm sorry and I hope you can get this cleared up, good luck.

Call the police and have your paperwork proving you own her handy.
Call the kennel where he got her and and see what they have to say. By "kennel" do you mean pound or shelter? not all chips can be scanned by all readers, so maybe they DID scan the dog and the scanner couldn't read it. I think Dog Fancy magazine did and article on this last year.
Ask the kennel how they got her. If this is a for-profit group let them know that you will be pursuing this and you will see them prosecuted if they do not assist you in getting your dog back.
As for having two chips---if one is older than the other then I would think the oldest chip establishes ownership unless the new owner can prove you sold it.
If the dog is registered then you should be able to show you did not transfer ownership.
Good luck getting your dog back.

Sorry but 2 years later I would cut your losses. The dog is settled in her new home and it wouldn't be fair to change again.
If the police are not going to help there is little you can do without getting i trouble and causing distress to the dog.
Ask the guy which rescue centre he got her from and complain to them. They need to explain why they didn't bother checking the details on the microchip.

This dog just needs to be scanned; but there's a time limit on reclaiming a stolen dog and its about 2 years. Plus it might turn out that this isn't your dog.
You need to talk to an RSPCA inspector as soon as possible. They can go and scan her and they'll get the police involved.
Good luck - don't waste any time.

You would have to take this guy to civil court. The police aren't going to be able to help you because it's a civil matter. You'll need proof that the dog was indeed yours and that you never signed away your rights. Does the dog seem to be in okay condition? If not, contact animal control and have them on their asses. Good luck!

Write to the current dog holder, and tell him you are filing a claim in small claims court..Mail a copy of the letter to yourself, so you have a postage mark on it...If he decides it is not worth going to court for, he may return your dog..but, if he does go to court, you will win, as you have the first micrchip in your dog..It will cost about $40-$60 to go to court..You must choose the amount you are filing for, not just the dog..so file for $5000 or the return of the dog..

Seriously, learn to spell. You are SOL without proof. However, if your microchip is still in the dog, ask the police to investigate. Why would it be there if you didn't have the dog at one time?
