they are not essential in our body system (thats junk food),the only thin that they can provide are the carbohydrates in the for of sugar ,sometimes people with a suddenly low blood sugar episode or diabetics, if they don't have their medications on hand a fast efficient method is to give them a coca-cola ,that helps a lot ,the other factor is that they have water in it ,so maybe that's another important factor

The carbonation is not only NOT important, it's actually detrimental. The CO2 reacts with the calcium in bones and actually acts to reduce bone density as well as accelerating osteoporosis. Women who are susceptible to osteoporosis are especially cautioned to avoid carbonated beverages.

I guess the only positive aspect about carbonated beverages is to drink them when you need a to have a good burp. which sometimes you do.
