There was a recent major study that found that the risk of autism in general greatly increased with as age of father at birth increased. In this group the ratio of males to females was 1:1. The CDC is not listing paternal age a a variable in the new $5.9 million study of autism. There seems to be great resistance to studying this factor that is strongly related to other brain disorders. Men are having children later in life. We need to ask questions about paternal age. If there is a strong connection people need to know about it. It may turn out that cumulative mutations are occuring in sperm and maybe the ages of paternal and maternal grandparents are involved. Researchers who implicate sperm as the cause of problems for offspring come under heavy attack, but we need to know.

If the maternal grandfather was an older father at the time of the child's mother's birth that might be relevant too. There are four times as many boys as girls who are diagnosed as autistic and a site on the X chromosome has been found to be mutated by researcher in Germany.
