Ok, you are attracted to the girl, right? You like the girl right? She seems to have a thing for you right? What kind of best friend do you have? Why would he hit her right in front of you? You need to defend her even if you didn't like her, because it is just not right for anyone to hit a girl! Your best friend is no friend, he likes her too, and is just afraid to say so. He hits her because he is mad because she likes you and not him. You need to talk to your friend, and tell him (in a nice way) that you like her, and would he please not hit her again. If he wants to get huffy with you, then you may have to kick his @ss. I don't suggest you doing that, but you do need to tell him; you like her, and for him to keep his hands off her. He don't sound like much of a friend if he hits her, and besides you don't need to lower yourself to be friends with someone that does stuff like that. Don't stay quite about it. Make a scene about it! Get him in trouble for doing it, and maybe he will get the message. If he already knows you like her, then you need to tell him how it's going to be, and if he can't deal with it, and act like he's got some sense, then you no longer wish to be friends with him. Stand up for the girl, and she will respect you for it, and so will everybody else. If it was me, i would slap his @ss into next week! Her liking you shouldn't embarass you. You need to learn to be a man, because this is not how men act. Friends come and go, but good looking girls don't come to you like that everyday, and you need to realize what is going on is wrong. if you continue to be one of the "scared to embarass yourself people" you will NEVER get what you want out of life..
always tell yourself the following simple phrase:
Don't Ask, Don't Get...

as to your friend, any guy that would hit a girl is a moron..PERIOD. You need to drop your BB's and make a stand instead of asking us.

Well it sounds like you're buddy is affraid of loosing you as his friend jealous perhaps, or he has a secret crush on her as well My advise to you would be talk to your friend about it and if he is a friend he will listen tell him you dont like how he treats your crush and between the two of you you could stage a scene whare you could stand up for her and make her feel like you care for her something along the lines of hey man you know you're not supposed to hit women especially one as beautiful as this one trust me if she hears this it will make her feel good because 1 you came to her defense and 2 you called her beautiful.

If your not afraid to embarrass yourself - ask her out. Greet her on a friday and say something stupid like - got big plans for the wknd? Try to get an idea of whats on the agenda and then tell her you love doing that - maybe yall can get together sometime. I suck at asking ppl out but am not too afraid to embarrass myself.

Tell your friend he is a jerk! After 3rd grade it is imature to hit girls! Talk to her about her other classes, upcoming events, a movie you saw or want to see etc. It sounds like she likes you.

I am a girl(don't take this personally)but...WHY HAVENT YOU STOOD UP FOR HER ALREADY?!Girls like that-and it makes them feel good and maybe if you are nice to her and talk to her to-than MAYBE you will get a chance to go out with her!!!
