I like badminton too and get really in to it lol!!! IDK it's just health codes or something. "stop america from being obese" haha they'd have to ban mcdonalds for that to happen ;) (and KFC!!!)

It's the principle of it. When done right and made to include actual exercise and when a majority of the kids participate it's a good thing. That way it's supposed to help put a dent in the obesity problem the US is facing. Not alot of people participate though, and many of the "exercises" are rudimentary and not even rigorous enough in some cases to be considered exercise. I even had a gym teacher who I swear to you was over 250 lbs. Gym isn't all that effective in reality.

Gym class is required to ensure that everyone has a healthy supply of traumatic and humiliating events to look back upon and shudder about as an adult - helps to keep the mental health professionals of the nation in business, don't ya know.

To encourage staying active and staying healthy. When I was in high school, only Freshmen and Sophmores had to take PE Juniors and Seniors could take it as an elective. I think they should change PE to incorporate more sports and fun activities that kids enjoy. Making it about running and exercises makes it lose its appeal, at least it did for me.

To teach people not to stagnate and to get off their large butts and move around.

Seriously, at lower grades K-8....the only requirement to get the "A" is to dress and participate. You don't have to meet any criteria...just dress and play. They do this to let the kids burn off energy that they aren't doing sitting in class.

Some people don't have to take gym in high school because they were in honors gym in middle school! Best thing I've ever done.
