I agree the negative ads do insult our intelligence. Here in NC we have a lot of that between Taylor and Shuler. It is so very crazy because Taylor is accusing Shuler of being a slum lord because he had a house where a woman fell through and it was later condemned but the irony is Taylor is a slum lord with vast rentals all in his wife's name. You know the proverbial pot calling the kettle black.
Sadly the reason they do this is it works. A lot of people for whatever reason will forget about Taylor's wife's rental properties and the scandal it caused 12 or 13 years ago. Maybe they are young voters or maybe they just don't read our paper or keep up and I'm sure that a lot of voters don't research who they are going to vote for. When I talk to people around I realize that most are not very well informed and those are the ones the negative ads are for.

Unfortunately, they don't insult all voter's intelligence because not all voters are intelligent. And even intelligent people can find themselves responding to something on an emotional level which is what these type of ads are aiming at.

Inability to negotiate through positive, influential reasoning, the stances they take. This fact being, makes it obvious, that in any politicians folder, is a subject BOUND to make SOMEONE unhappy, and therefore, this alienates them to these unhappy persons, and loses them the votes they wish, from everyone. So the route you speak of in regards to campaigning is the only logical venue, and if forced into public debate, the issues are better dealt with by confusion, peppered with positive things accomplished, and then creating the illusion that the other candidate is confused.
Plus it's entertaining.

You're right, they do insult voter's intellegiance, I refuse to vote for a politician who crafts negative ads. I'll write Mickey Mouse in if I have to. I want to hear what they stand for, the issues they will address, what they will do for us, not baiting, backbiting, and bit**ing.

Because a lot of people FALL for negative political ads.
Personally I think all TV and radio ads should be banned and we should make up our mind based on debates.

By "Ade's" you mean "Ads" I trust. Negative advertising works. Voters are very smart as we see from who is elected. Don't vote, it only encourages them.

Let's face it, there are a lot of people who are uninformed on the issues and who have very short memories. People who are uneducated always remember the sound bytes and nothing else.
