I forgot to mention that I am already in the country. I am learning as fast as I can and watching TV, and reading books in Portuguese but I am having trouble actually communicating. (I am an international exchange student and I am only 16...)

Find a place where you live where that language is spoken all the time. Listen and speak a lot. Stay there all day every day and in 1 or 2 years, you will master the language.
