If do your homework and find a good breeder Golden Retrievers can be great with kids. Just be prepared for a lot of grooming and vacuuming!
Retrievers of all kinds are high energy dogs that need a lot of exercise and training. However a kid can throw a ball/bumper as well as an adult.
You might want to check out www.grca.org - the Golden Retriever Club of America for more information.

They are great with kids! They are loveable, and love to play games. If you have small children, such as babies or young toddlers, you may want to get a Golden Retriver that is not a puppy. Puppies are energetic, can play hard (especially if they are teething), and are hard to take care of if your children aren't old enough to watch or take care of them. They are great for most ages though, if you can devote a lot of time to them. Just make sure to teach it at as a puppy to not bite people.

Generally. Most dogs are good with kids when trained properly. I would look a little more into the health of the breed you are considering buying. Goldens are natorious for cancer among other health issues. And PLEASE buy a purebred from a small home kennel who loves their dogs, and properly cares for them. Not a pet store. Not some grimey dude trying to make a buck. Ask about health testing parents and temperants. Do your homework and whichever breed you choose should be healthy.

Hi There! Retrievers are great with kids. They have the tolerance. The big issue that usually is misconstrued is the owners are bad. Retrievers and labs are great family dogs and are very smart. I have one in obedience school and he is also a Search and Rescue dog. I am amazed at what they can learn. I also Have a 6 year old son who is a little rough with the dog, but the dog has never lost is patience. If anything he licks people to much, but thats his way of showing affection. Great dogs, but they need lots of attention and love to reach their potential.

Yes they are.....just remeber as with any dog proper training will make the differance....start young and be consistant.....also just remember that goldens and labs both have a very long puppy stage and they will need a lot of attention, exercise, and love....it is also good to get toys for them that will keep them busy and not bored.....overall they are great family dogs though.

Right on! Yep, they are really really great dogs, especially with children. Great personality, affectionate, really great. Did I mention that they are GREAT??!! Though it greatly depends on the AGE of the kids. No matter how great a dog is with children, it should NOT be left unsupervised with young children....
Some other Great Suggestions for Children's Pet:
1. Labs( great great great, I will give this breed a 5star rating)
2 Rat Terriers( great with children, similar to the JRT( Jack russell terrier, but generally a calmer temperment. My 4 rat terriers I have had have been GREAT with children.
3. Great Pyrnees, Newfoundland, Saint Benard, etc....are some more great dogs but they are really really BIG. So probably not adquete for little kids.
I certainly DO not advice chihuahuas with little kids.....No offense to you all chihuahua lovers out there! Well any way hope this was of some help....

You can never always be sure how a dog will be around children... no matter what breed. But I know for a fact that "goldens" (I work at a dog groomers... in training to be one myself) are very intellent. With the proper training they can be excellent family members.

Yeah they're good with kids and they're the most loyal and calm dogs out there so i would definetly go with buying a golden retriever.
