In the major cities, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Pattaya, etc. there will be Thai's that speak english. At worse you could find some that understand written english.

Snow, I doubt it, they are too far south for snow. It does get to the 10's Celsius in the north, Chiang Mai in the winter which it is now winter. Bangkok it has been in the 30's and can get into the 20's at night.

Cotton dresses are best, don't buy too many, since it is cheaper there. Unless you are large. They don't specialize in large sizes I noticed. I am a male, Large to XL and I would have trouble finding business clothes off the rack. They are rather a smallish people.

The people are wonderful. Very friendly, it's the land of Smiles. Though sometimes you wonder with some of the street vendors. They have a hard life some of them.

Read what www.thailandguru.com has to say. You can further research at www.thaiwebsites.com and they have some articles about Thailand too.

The food is great but, remember they are an emerging First world country. You may want to make sure you have gotten your Hepatitis A and B shots. And make sure your Tetanus is up to date.

Bangkok is great but, the air is dirty. The traffic is horrendous, the BTS Skytrain and MRT subway are great, clean and efficient and inexpensive. The buses are okay. They have a train system and bus system that connects the cities. A few airports in the major cities of tourism.

Cell phones: You will probably need one. DTAC, AIS or True/Orange are the major carriers. AIS is supposed to be the best but, I have heard complaints about them all. I made some of the complaints. I used to use True/Orange but, this last trip in July they could not get my new account started for almost 24 hours. Which I could not have. I went to a DTAC store and used their service. Not a problem. The complaint against them is connnections, even when both parties have DTAC. I had the same problem with True/Orange so what's new. AIS I have heard they have been having problems. Take your pick. Oh yeah, DTAC has the lowest rates.

Grab a book on Thailand, Lonely Planet, Frommer's etc. once you are there you will understand. I like Lonely Planet's Thai phrase book.

If you have more questions email me. I will be there around Thanksgiving for a few days to visit my girlfriend.

Good luck

I hope your move is a good move for you. It does not sound like there is much preparation for this.
There is no snow. In general it is warm. You probably don't need winter clothes in Bangkok or beaches. It can get a little cold on the mountains with frost.
If you stay in big cities or Bangkok, there are a lot of people understanding English and can speak English, especially once you are used to their accents. You should also speak slowly. Try to be nice, friendly and respectful. You will have a great time.
Thais are quite nice overall. Trying to learn Thai language and custom will also help you tremendously. They will be very happy and willing to teach you. That will go a long way.
I would not worry too much about clothes. The best thing is to buy them there. They are not expensive and have good selections. You can even go to a tailor! for a fair price.
Good Luck and Choke dee.

Thailand is a tropical country...meaning that isn't 4 seasons...
Mostly like summer...with different amount of rainfall...

Major touristic cities like Bangkok and Phuket can speak a bit of English...
Dun expect them to be thoroughly fluent though...
The younger generation mostly understand simple written English...
So if you need recommendations on where to buy stuff...probably it is of help to ask the younger Thais...
But it is better that u try to speak some basic Thai to get yourself around...

Of my many trips there...
I have received good help from the locals...
Sometimes...they recommend u places for their benefit to earn commission...
But the frequency is a lot lesser these days...
(It could be because I look like a local)

Hope it helps~
