I want to use a stencil to make a giant poster, and in order to do that, i need to project the shadow of the stencil onto a wall. Since I dont have access to an actual projector, I was wondering if there was any way i could achieve the desired effect with household items like a 500 watt work lamp.

anyone have any clever suggestions?

You'll need some type of lens to focus the light ... not just a light source. Something similar to an overhead projector should be possible.

DIY projectors is a fairly busy "hobby" area with some people making fairly sophisticated designs (for example, link #1)

A site with a lens calculator exists (2nd link) which works for single and multiple lens setups and for the fresnel lens usually used.

Do a Google search for "DIY overhead projector" and I think you'll get some ideas.
