I am overweight, overworked and unhappy with my lot generally - but put a cheery face on things - I just can't stop my nightly fix of wine (anywhere from half a bottle to a bottle). Is this bad? What the hell can I do to stop it? Partner drinks too, and he is alot more attractive after half a bottle.....

You may not be in serious trouble just yet but you are certainly heading that way, drinking that much every night is recipe for disaster you really need to start cutting back, try to drink only on alternative nights and then only once or twice a week until you get it under control. If you cant do this you will have to stop altogether. As an alcoholic my self I can assure you that this is very difficult,.but the alternative is a life of sheer misery, Have been sober now for twenty three years. Years that have been full of contentment and gratitude that my life has not been wasted ,good luck

Depending on your body type for a women 2 standard drinks a night is ok because it will not harm your body but anything after that and it will start to do harm, but over a long period of time that is. A bottle will contain about 7 to 8 standard drinks so the answer to your question is yes you are. Maybe try to do something else at night with your partner instead of drinking that bottle and just stick to 1 to 2 drinks. good luck

I guess drinking wine is not all that bad. A glass full a day can make your heart stay healthy. But the whole bottle? Maybe that is a little too much. If your friends drink, just drink a little bit. You can't stop drinking from one day to another, but if you try to stop drinking little by little maybe that will work. By the way. I love White Zinfandel! Good luck!

You should cut down... 1/4 bottle of vodka is a starting point, 0% fat, 0 calories, and after that even next doors dog will be more attractive and then you will pass out... stopping you drinking.
Hope this has been of some help!

I love my wine too, so I feel for you. The only bad thing is it is LOADED with sugar. This is why you also have weight issues. Can you switch to vodka? No sugar, and you won't pack on any unnecessary pounds.

I like what you said about how your partner looks after half a bottle, too funny!!

It's not bad.

But it's not so good either.

You gotta sort out the cause if you can.

Try some confidential chat. Maybe your company has a welfare service? Or an Occupational Health Advisor.

Or try a drink advice line.

Right now you are in a position to do something yourself rather than have it visited upon you.

Hope you get through this time OK

You don't have a problem unless you can't stop after taking the first drink. If you feel you have to drink to relax, stop and start exercising, getting a hobbie, get an animal. If you take that first drink and can't stop you might want to speak to a professional or attend an AA meeting to see if you can relate.

Yes it does seem to be a little too much.
I would cut down to 2-3 glasses a night maximum.
Get down the Gym.
Change jobs
All the above are unpleasant to do I'm afraid. But no pain no gain. Go for it tiger :-)

Well my sentiments exactly. If you can't have a drink and chill after a hard day's work, what is the point of it all. You carry on and enjoy yourself, just like me. If I want a drink, I will.
