SmartBridge is a communications program that is used by HP printers and is also part Broadband Medic diagnostic tools. If you've recently installed IE7, this changes one of the files that SmartBridge uses. (Well done Microsoft 0/10 again!) It doesn't actually stop SmartBridge from working, it just confuses it at startup. If you can put up with the nuisance for a few days, I'm sure Microsoft will issue a patch. If not, you'll need to find which of your programs uses SmartBridge and delete it from your start menu.
