If the bag previously has been opened, it may have absorbed moisture from the air. At the same time, the exposure to the air allows some of the lighting fluid in the briquets to evaporate. Solution: Saturate with charcoal lighter fluid.

It's probably what the guys are saying. Don't over do the lighter fluid, your food will taste funny. The charcoal I get has no fluid or anything, I buy it off the rack and don't even know if it has moisture or anything, what I do is that I pour some cooking oil over the charcoals and get a rolled up sheet of newspaper and put it in between the charcoal, light the paper, and the paper will light the charcoal. Hope it works for you!

Take a large coffee can and punch a bunch of holes (about 50 or so) all around the bottom up to about 2" or so. I used a large nail which made it rather simple. Now, cut away the bottom to make a tube. Place this tube in your BBQ with the holes down. Fill it about half way with crumpled newspaper not too compressed. Fill the rest with charcoal. Now, light the paper and the air holes in the can will make the fire hotter than normal and your coals will ignite faster than you realize.
