YES IT DOES. IN MICROBIOLOGY CLASS IN DENTAL SCHOOL WE EXPERIMENTED WITH JUST THAT, WHETHER OR NOT TOOTHPASTE KILLS BACTERIA. WHEN WE PLACED TOOTHPASTE IN PETRI DISH CULTURES((OF BACTERIA), TO SEE IF THEY WOULD GROW OR NOT, WHAT WE FOUND IS THAT A ZONE OF INHIBITION FORMED IN WHICH NO BACTERIA GREW.
SOME TOOTHPASTES HAVE ANTIBACTERIAL COMPOUND CALLED TRICLOSAN ADDED TO MAKE THE ANTIBACTERIAL PROPERTIES EVEN STRONGER.

not really, what it does do is make the germs slick enough to wash them out of your mouth. If there is flouride in the paste it serves to strengthen the enamel.
