1. Clay is the main ingredient in kitty litter, and it is non-compostable. clay is clay.... it's has no organic matter in it to be broken down.

2. The scat within the litter IS organic material, but, it is not a good idea to compost it because of all the diseases and worms that can be in a cat's digestive tract.

I have a brand of cat litter called Oz-Pet. I have just recently converted to this litter, my cats love it and I love it because there is less smell, less wastage and less work. It is actually wood pellets that are 100% organic and biodegradable and can be composted after use. It is a wonderful product that reduces litterbox smell and lasts longer than many other commercial litters available. I just remove the solid waste (faeces) and any litter that has been urinated on turns to sawdust, which can be sieved out. This sawdust material can be composted and the litter tray just needs to be topped up therefore reducing wastage. For further information go to www.oz-pet.net.au.
Hope you find this helpful.

I've attempted composting cat litter and it doesn't seem to work very well. However, it's mostly clay with little bits of cat poop. If you want extra clay in your compost, then yeah, go ahead, otherwise just the cat poop. I would recommend staying away from cat litter which has addatives (fragrances, chemicals, etc.).

NO! Cat litter should never be composted; it contained two parasites that hang around in the soil for years!!! One is Toxoplasmosis which causes spontaneous abortion (miscarriage) and cycts in the brain, and the other is Toxacara Felis, which causes blindness.

Cat litter should be incinerated, not flushed down the loo or composted.

I'd compost it and then make sure you don't use the compost on your vegetable patch.

i'm uncertain approximately composting it yet my ma makes use of it to eliminate bunnies and different critters whilst they eat her vegetation. do exactly no longer use the clumping type (she positioned it interior a number of her bricks around the backyard and it rained and made a huge mess- duh).

No! Not a good idea. Any food waste mentioned should be uncooked & exclude meat.
