Many "diets" simply rely on reducing your calories, not taking into account whether the calories you are eating are healthy or not. If you are getting all your calories as junk food and refined carbohydrates, first of all your blood sugar will skyrocket, forcing your body to produce lots of insulin, the result of which is that the insulin encourages your body to make fat and the dropping blood sugar makes you hungry again very quickly. Secondly, even if you are getting enough calories the lack of nutrients will have your body screaming for more food. Very few people are able to go for long periods of time being hungry, sooner or later their body will force them to eat.
Another problem: junk food is cheap and easy and it's usually on hand just when you're hungriest.
Too many people look at diets as something that they do temporarily while they lose the weight, then they go back to eating "normally". To lose weight and keep it off you must make a lifestyle change.
Often people who are trying to lose weight face another problem: people who are insisting that they eat things which are not on their plan. I've heard this from many people and observed it myself. People will actually be very rude in attempting to push food on you after you've told them that you don't want it or can't have it because it doesn't fit within your diet plan. "Oh, just one won't hurt!"
There are lots of other reasons, these are just a couple.....

A big part of why diets fail is based on the persons willpower to stay away fram whats bad and keep up with excercise. It's so hard to start but so easy to stop. Plus in todays day and age people are so involved with work and other activities that it may be hard to find the time. I myself work from 8 to 8 five days a week. It's very stressful and tiring. It is hard to eat right and excercise because of this schedule.

because once the weight is lost, people do not change their eating habits. if you eat healthy and exercise you can keep it off for life. It has nothing to do with the FDA is has to do with the dieter. as far a time goes for exercise. instead of being on the computer take 15 minutes and go for a walk. walk on a break or at lunch. It reduces stress and you have to make you a priorty

Diets don't fail, but people fail to stay on diets. It's hard to change patterns and habits, especially ones learned since childhood or acquired over years. A lot of people are emotional eaters, snacking incessantly when they are stressed, sad, celebrating, or excited. Social eating is definitely a factor considering people eat 30% more when they dine in a group. Poor diet does train our bodies to crave more food. A stretched somach or over-active pancreas both send signals to our brains that it's time to eat again when it's not. For people to succeed on diets, they need a strong resolve to change their lifestyle, and I think it is usually a gradual change when people are successful. Like reducing portions and increasing vegetables versus eating salad for lunch and dinner every day. This is my guess and perceptions, anyway.

Diets fail because they are not followed correctly. You need to pay close attention to details around what they tell you. Use your brain and listen to physical hunger not your emotional hunger.
When the diet tells you to exercise, you need to do at least 45 mins of cardio, not just 10 mins of weight lifting.
When the diet tells you to eat cereals, it doesn't mean you can have 5 bowls of cereal.
Its all about using your head, listening to stomach and BALANCING OUT THE TWO !!

First of all I think most diets are hard to stick with .The only way it will work is if you change your habits all together for good otherwise you just gain back the weight as soon as you eat "normal" again. like a yo-yo. just try to eat healthy and not in huge amounts also be active, like go for walks or find a sport you like. I love to swim. and I cut back on my sweets wich was hard cause I love chocolatemake small changes at first.

Cause people dont have the will-power to stick with it. Its more of a lifestyle change. A person clearly got heavy by eating the way they do, so to correct it would be to change what you eat. Think of all the people you know that have ridden the 'diet rollercoaster'.

why do diets fail...it's a lack of knowledge and motivation to eat healthy and excercise. Only a few people have motivation and the drive to accomplish for that matter anything in life....Most of the time it's psychological..low self esteem that makes a person feel worthless and they feed their void with food...
