On Canadian ships, we are very, very well fed.

For one thing, our ships only have one galley for the Captain, the Wardroom, the Chiefs and PO's and the Junior Ranks. So quality is really on the high side of things.

As for quantity, we can't complain. 0300 and 0700 breakfasts, 1000 soup, lunch, dinner, late meal around midnight, always toast, cereals, fresh fruit and very often leftovers available round the clock, and more kinds of condiments than we can shake a stick at. And of course, we have the "regular" dishes. Sunday is Prime Rib night, Thursday is Steak Night, Friday features clam chowder made from scratch as the soup of the day, with Fish and Chips for lunch (from scratch, too) and pizza for supper. Lunch features a sandwich counter as well. And at every meal, there are 2 main choices, plus a pasta choice and a vegetarian choice, so no matter what, you're pretty much sure to find something you'll like.

While our cooks don't use much in the way of spices, they use a lot of herbs and even without using anything, it's pretty good.

Look at it this way: Do you want to eat MREs all the time, or would you rather sit down and eat a good meal. I never had bad food in the Navy - well except for one time in Vietnam when we ran out of meat and the ship's supply officer went into Saigon and bought a side of water buffalo - almost 40 years later and I am still chewing it.

The bigger the ship the less appetizing the food. Very bland. On some days a meal might outright suck.... "Liver Fiesta."

Normally, at lunch they have a "speed line" which serves burgers and fries type fare if you don't want to eat off the main menu.

it all depends on what ship you are stationed on and how many people are served. i was on the USS Forrestal(aircraft carrier) and most of the time it wasn't bad. after 6 months on it the food kind of gets boring. not much selection and perishables, such as eggs, milk, etc., don't normally last very long at sea.

Generaly the bigger the ship the better. My (former, I live in Annapolis) Midi' was stationed on a destroyer (I think) The USS O'Kane, he said it was not half bad.

Not great, but not bad. It is on the bland side.

Or, as we use to say, "It'll make a turd".
