In both kicking and punching, power greatly comes from the balls of your foot, through your trunk (waist and hips).

In punching:

1) Straight right punch - Push from balls of the right foot, consequently turning your trunk towards the direction of the punch, passing the momentum to your shoulders, to your arms, to your fist... BAM!!!

2) Left hook - Push from your left foot as you turn your hips to your right, slinging your shoulder and arms towards the target. Keyword here is "slinging"

These are the two main power punches in boxing but any punch can be very powerful if same principle are applied. (Push from foot, followed by trunk, then the shoulders, let arms go!) Power and acceleration is multiplied in each passing/transferring of force.

In Kicking:

1) 45 degree kick (low roundhouse) - Push from kicking foot, turn hips towrd the direction, a little extension from the knee, hit with the shin or instep. Key here is the turning of the trunk!!!

2) Side-kick or Back kick - raise and bend kicking leg, try to have good balnce with the other leg, and thrust with much force possible with the kicking leg. Little push from the balancing leg might add some power too.

Always remember: Practice, practice, practice.... (heavy bag is highly recommended)

I can only speak in punching.

For righ handed fighter
Right hand - pivot your back foot and turn your fist as it is landing.

Left Hook - Pivot your left foot. It transfers the weight from you left to the right side of the body. Also turn your left hand with the knuckles parallel to the ground as the punch lands.

Jab push off your back foot.

Punching power is all about leverage and speed.

I agree with Robert, power of the punch comes from the body.
Throw your body into the punches, lean into it, except for jabbing.
For more power of the kicks, make sure you always have your hips into it, turn your hips all the way in for the roundhouse.
