Prosavin is a treatment, not a cure. There is currently no cure for Parkinson's disease. And even as a treatment, it doesn't always work for everyone.

Well it is difficult to say at this stage but certainly the results are encouraging. This is a very novel treatment in that it delivers the genes required to tell cells they must start producing dopamine.

It is the first of its kind and the results seem good. There are more trials scheduled in 2007 but it looks like this really could improve the quality of life for many people.

As for being a cure well that remains to be seen. If you can take this medicine and be sure you won't deteriorate further then it is as close to a cure as we have. It doesn't actually fix the cells completely, however, so at this stage it is probably bests to view it as potentially the best medicine we have in the fight against parkinsons.

There are actually 2 types of Parkinson's in real terms- the type that occurs when over 50/60 which is most common and very treatable and the type that occurs when people are much younger e.g Michael J Fox's, which tends to be much worse.

I don't know how good it will be for people with the latter but it sounds like it will improve things considerably.

When they can offer something that heals the damaged area permanently and returns the person 100% back to normal with no side effects then that will be a cure.

At this stage there is no cure and this drug may not work for everyone but things are definitely moving in the right direction.

I agree with my fellow nurse. Not a cure and is a hit or miss treatment.
