I believe the laws of the US state that a person cannot be denied basic medical care no matter what their financial conditions are. I know that a few years back, I got medical care that I didn't have to pay for when I got bit by a spider, even though the cost was considerably more than my provincial government was willing to pay and my daughter got free care that saved her life that wasn't yet available in Canada.

You're asking if we should expand medicaid to cover illegal immigrants, so lets see whats involved, we chuck the medicaid requirements because we make it illegal to ask their status, now if it is granted, its not just the applicant but his entire family that gets a card, and if they qualify for medicaid, they are automatically put on food stamps. Oh but they do jobs Americans won't, if they were paid a working mans wage Americans will do anything to put food on the table. We already have programs in place that bring in 1.5 million foreign workers a year. Boosting our economy would consist of putting tarrifs on American Companies that use cheap overseas labor to make it unprofitable, bring our steel back from India, and make America a manufacturing nation again. Most illegals can barely speak english so they DEMAND we teach school bilingual. Where does it stop, that we have to take care of the world, when we are a third world country? There are already 10 states that are in the same financial state as California. I'm sorry but if the Government did what it needs to do to make us a working nation, I can't in good concious give illegals a reason to come here or stay here, as it is they cost billions in identity theft, added police, and prison space, and public services.

I am not American so I cannot answer your question for sure. However, a few years ago in Australia, rumours were going around about refugees being given cheap home loans, grants of thousands of dollars, cars etc by the government. This turned out to be bullsh** which had been started by some racist groups trying to stir up trouble. The same groups had sent letters looking like they came from a govt department advising people that their neighbourhood had been chosen to settle a group of refugees and not to worry when they slaughtered goats on the lawn etc.
My point is that you need to check whether these stories you keep hearing are true. With respect to my fellow yahoo answerers, I dont think this is where to find out. Why dont you ring your congressman's office and ask them?

That's awesome! I'm a 35 year old single parent of a special needs child. I'm also presently not working, but I DON'T QUALIFY for special services and presently have NO HEALTH INSURANCE. I make too much money on unemployment!
I'm going to have to pick up a cheap student health policy and someone illegal gets to have free care/medicaid? How fair is that? If you're a citizen of this country you get no assistance until your are DESTITUTE!

In border states, free medical is provided to illegals to prevent health disasters like epidemics. The pressure on hospitals has caused almost 50 to close, endangering American citizens who are now without as well as illegals! Other hospitals all over the country are closing their emergency rooms!

Our glorious X-president Bill Clinton signed a bill that got passed by the slimmest of margins that there is money set aside specifically to pay for health care for "Undocumented Nationals". (That's the politically correct way to say Illegal Alien.) I work in an ER and they show up all the time because they know what we don't know, their health care is FREE here because we tax paying citizens pay for it for them.

Yeah and meanwhile my mother who has cancer and can't work can't get medicaid because the 900 dollars a month she gets from social security is too much income to qualify. And she was born here. What's wrong with that picture.

Sure-and I pay over $600.00 per month just for prescriptions. I should just quit everything and go on Medicaid. Pride has JUST A BIT to do with it.

Read the mission statement carefully. They provide help regardless of legal status or country of origin. They like to refer to illegals as refugees. They have a special team of employees that just help these people. This help is not temporary either, as they transfer them to the regular program after one year.
