Yes I pray in tongues often. Praying in tongues out loud is a form of spiritual warfare and I do it as often as possible.

I believe it happened at one time (when the Bible said so). I don't think it happens anymore, though.
At the time of the writing of the Bible, only the Jews had heard Jesus' message. That means that only those who spoke Hebrew (and maybe some Greek), were able to hear the message at the time. It would have been possible to spread the message to other languages eventually; but it takes time to learn another language, and that is precious time lost when you are trying to explain a somewhat large message such as Christianity.
However, if the Holy Spirit gave them the ability to speak other languages without having to take the time to actually learn those languages, then that would greatly speed up the process of spreading the Good News. Which is why I believe in the speaking in tongues.
Today however, there are Christians in every country and in every language. There is no need to speak in tongues, because there are those who speak in that tongue already spreading it among their own. We must focus on those who speak our language(s), and then everyone gets the message still. It is no longer necessary to have speaking in tongues, so it no longer happens (at least, I don't think it does. And for those who see it in church, I would point out that the person speaking it doesn't know what they are saying, so how do they really know they aren't possessed by a demon, or simply speaking gibberish?).

First, let me say that I believe in the gift of speaking in tongues. Let me also say that I think it is generally over-emphasized and over-acted by people who wish to be seen as devout or "saved."
The problem with a question like this, is you're looking for justification for your pentecostal theology. Remember, the Bible is a long book and there are a lot of important things in there. Emphasizing one passage of scripture over another is a recipe for deception. Take the entire volume together and you'll find you're built on a sure foundation, not a sandy one.

I believe that people DID speak in tongues (as the book of Acts, in the New Testament of the Bible records) and that people do continue to do so today by the power of the Holy Spirit (H.S.). That being said, I also believe that all of the other gifts of the HS are very active today, too.
See, I do NOT place 'tongues' in a separate special category from the other types of giftings that the H.S may bestow on people (i.e. insight, words of knowledge, prophecy, healing, encouragement, teaching, intercession, etc etc etc). To elevate 'tongues' to a position above the other giftings is very dangerous, as *not* all followers of Christ will be given that gift, nor should we expect that; the H.S., in the infinite wisdom of God chooses who 'gets' what.
Therefore, In other words, to say that 'evidence of tongues' is necessary to a Christian's walk/faith is to negate and condemn the faith/walk of millions of committed Christ followers who serve and minister every day by the *other* giftings of the Holy Spirit, but not tongues.
These other giftings are SO important because it is the non-tongues giftings that allow each of us to be actively "other-centred" (not self-centred), partnering with God to serve *others* in ways that we could never do on our own - which builds our own faith, builds in to their lives and also builds human-human AND human-God relationships. How awesome is that!!
There is a REALLY, really interesting sermon series from this fall called "Ghost Stories" that discusses the H.S., our understanding of the H.S., the Gift of the H.S. and the giftings of the HS, the HS's function, etc etc at http://themeetinghouse.ca under "Sermons", "archives".
Please check out the sermons and let me know what you think! Also, check out Bruxy Cavey on myspace if you have any other comments of questions about the sermons.
Cheers : )

Some can and do speak in tongues but it is silly to suggest all have to. it is a gift from God but it also needs interpreting. you should never have a room full of people all speaking in tongues that is not from God.

It is a part of salvation as said in Acts 2:38
you have a few things mixed up, Paul was correcting a church because that was all they did and the unbeliever cant understand that, you need order to church and preaching

Why not record your speaking in tongues, and put it to some sort of rational test ? I don't doubt your faith, or your beliefs, it just might not be true for others who listen to you. I've been to a church service, and I heard a lot of gibberish.

I don't think speaking in tongues is anything more than people speaking gibberish. Why would it be? Gibberish is easy, anyone can do it. If they can speak a language they have never heard, that might be interesting - but there's no evidence they do. They are delusional, as are all people who buy it.

I believe in speaking in tongues because in the Bible the disciples received tongues of fire so that they could speak prayers in different languages.

I believe in speaking in tongues. And I do. I speak in English, in Spanish, in Portuguese, in Ido... Those are languages, or tongues. I speak in tongues.
