There is a virus that cats get called feline rhinovirus. While it may make you feel better to be giving it some medication, no antibiotic will cure it. Antibiotics come into play when the kitten develops a secondary infection due to the inflammatory effects of the virus.

Feline rhinovirus usually runs its course in about two weeks. It is just like a kid getting a cold and you really don't want to overuse antibiotics in cats or people. Just keep a close watch on your kitty, if it stops eating or drinking, or gets diarrhea and vomitting, that is a sign that your baby has developed a secondary infection and then it is vet time. If the symptoms I've mentioned appear, it is time to see a vet immediately. Kittens can go downhill overnight from dehydration.

If there are no other symptoms besides stuffy nose and sneezing, just give lots of TLC and keep a close watch.

Upper respirtory infections can be extremely dangerous in kittens, so you'll want to take the little critter to the vet if at all possible.

Some at home treatments that can make your kitten feel better are sitting in a bathroom with the shower on or a warm air steamer, (make sure that the kitten can't knock the steamer over!) and a drop or two of saline nasal drops in each nostril. Make sure that the nose drops are just saline and don't have any drugs in them, since many human drugs are lethal to pets. Your kitten will not like the nose drops. Make sure he or she is eating. Wet food is best becuase it helps to keep the hydration levels up.

If at any time your kitten starts acting tired and lethargic or seems to be dehydrated, (To check hydration, pick up the skin on the back of the neck. It should snap right back into place when you let go. If it takes more than a second to snap back then the kitten is dehydrated.) or if it's temperature is high, get him to a vet no matter what. Upper respirtory infections can be deadly.

It's really important to take the kitten to the vet as it may not clear up on its own.

However, whilst you're waiting to go to your appointment, you could try putting the kitten in the bathroom with you whilst you're having a bath (scented with eucalyptus oil, if you could stand it) or a nice hot steamy shower. This might help clear some of the snuffles.

Hope the vet says that it is nothing serious.

Upper Respirtory Infections are common is especially rescued kitties. If snot, boogers and a raspy weezing noise are present see your vet. A lot of times the kitties stop eating because they cannot smell and they don't feel good. A good home helper, not remedy is to isolate your kitty with a humidifyer running for a week! It helps break up the congestion. Remeber, URI's are infectious and other cats can catch it!

My cat once had a stuffy nose and sneezes, we took him to the vet who gave us pennicilin to give to him. It cleared up after awhile, but it was hard giving him the medicine cause we had to do it in a dropper. I think you can get it in pill form though. If it keeps up take him (or her) to the vet and see what can be done. Good luck.

Is it sneezing? Colds can get serious and life threatening in kittens. I REALLY suggest a vet visit.

You should take the kitten to a vet. They should be able to help you. In the mean time keep it warm and get it to drink water and milk.

Good Luck!!!
