try ancestry.com, you will have to sign up for a free membership, some of their info is free but some you have to pay for, when you get to the main page scroll down and you will see 'census' click on '1870' and it will prompt you to sign up for a free membership. also you could try family tree maker.

another good site is familysearch.org the mormon site, lots of info if you know the name you're searching for
