As an atheist i don't believe that god exists... that's all atheist means. What i do believe is what can be demonstrated through evidence. I believe that science is our best tool for discovering the truth about our world and our universe. I believe that people can be good of their own volition. I believe people should be responsible for their own actions or inactions. I also believe that religion is one of the most dangerous things known to mankind.

Atheists believe that the world is God. You can't say that they believe themselves to be God, otherwise there would be chaos as everyone would be doing whatever they want. Atheists do not do just whatever they want, for they bend to the will of the world. They walk into a store and exchange money for goods, they would like to not have to pay, but since they do not believe themselves to be Gods, they do not. They follow the rules of the world, and if you believe, you know that the Earth was given to the devil, who knows there is God, therefore all Atheists follow Satan, therefore worship Satan without even knowing it.

It is not about belief. All it means is that you don't believe in god. People don't believe in the tooth fairy, so what do they believe in? Well things like gravity, cake, dogs, etc. I don't believe in god or hell, but I believe what is real. Most things everyone believes, but not god. Different atheists believe different things. Some believe in the soul, some don't.
Edit: to correct CurtisM.com's answer, no. Evolutionists believe in evolution. Some atheists are evolutionists, but not all.

I'm with Crash Davis:
"Well, I believe in the soul, the cock, the pussy, the small of a woman's back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days. [pause] Goodnight. "

I don't believe God exists. I believe everybody I've met does exist, or at least have existed if they've died since I've met them.
I don't believe angels, or demons, or devils, or fairies, or bogeymen exist. I believe that you exist. I believe that I exist. I believe my dog Cisco exists. It would take too long to list everybody who I believe exists.
Now, let's take two examples, you and God.
You don't seem to have any supernatural powers or anything. Judging from your post here, you seem like an average person. Yet, you've managed to convince me that you exist.
That must mean that it's not too difficult to get me to believe that someone exists. Yet, your god, if he exists, hasn't been able to manage this simple feat that you accomplished.
That means, either:
1) He doesn't exist (which is my vote).
2) He's purposely hiding, in which case I'll never know of his existence. I imagine gods can keep fairly well hidden when they want to be.
3) He's just too lazy to make himself known. There are many people who I don't know to exist, just because they haven't told me they exist.
4) He really wants me to believe he exists, but he just isn't as convincing as you are. While you can convince me, over the many miles that exist between us, and even though we've never actually met, that you exist, God can't.
If you can think of any other choices, please let me know.
Some Christians say that if you truly believe in God and repent to him and ask him for proof of his existence, then he'll show you. However, to do this sincerely, you'd have to already be convinced he exists. Sorry, but you can't choose to be convinced by something. It really isn't a choice.
Some Christians say God can definitely convince all of us that he exists, it would somehow take away our free will. Actually, the opposite is true. As I said, you can't really choose whether to believe something or not. However, once you believe someone exists, you can choose to follow them or not. If God does nothing to convince me that he exists, he takes away my choice of whether to follow him or not. And to push the point further, I'll give a counter example. According to your mythology, Satan is 100% convinced that God exists. Yet he still maintains his free will. According to your myth, he chose whether to follow God or oppose him. He didn't choose whether or not to believe God exists.

Good question, so I will try to answer for you. I believe in ehtics. That is to say, I will try to do good things for others regardless of thier particular persuation. It is impossible for me to believe in an imaginary character (god) when science tells me that in all probability, life on this particular planet evolved through an accident of nature and some chance chemical reactions.
You may choose to believe in a god or gods, that is of no importance to me unless you are trying to govern my life with your beliefs. Live & let live rather that the present political climate of injecting literal interpretations of the bible into society. remember, the bible was written by men not some god.

As an atheist, I believe in humanity while knowing that there is something out there larger than me. Just not necessarily "god" or something I worship.

I don't believe in Santa or the Easter bunny either. Why can you not comprehend that I don't believe in any kind of sky daddy?
You second answerer points to evolution. While many do and REAL scientists do, it is not required.
