Before I met my wife (when she was 17) her Ex-Navy father got mad at her and drove her down to the army recruiting station and forced her to enlist. She was officially sworn in at MEPS the following march, the very day of her 18th birthday. We met a few days after she was sworn in. We married in July she is in Basic training now. She was so scared when she left, she is sacred now, she never wanted to go, she was just afraid to say no to her Dad. Her dream is to be a veterinarian, but her Dad got her signed up as an Infantry Supply clerk. Is there anyway to save her from this nightmare. Is there anyway to get her discarged?

She should stay in. Basic will probably be the hardest thing she'll have to do. After she gets out, she can go anywhere as a supply clerk. Probably won't go to a combat area unless she requests it.
So she gets stationed somewhere states side. It's like a 9-5 job most of the time. She come in, do her job, and go home. She'll get housing, so you can join her.
It'll pay for her school to be a veterinarian. Hell, she can go to some night classes and get all the prerequisites outta the way before she gets out.
However, if she really wants out and she is in basic...all she has to do is ask. They will try to talk her out of it. Probably bad mouth her. Call her names. Etc. But they will give her a general discharge..or a less than honorable discharge I think they called it.
We had someone go awol while I was in basic and they just mailed him his less than honorable. They don't want to spend too much money on someone and just have them leave. They may sound tough on her...but they will let her leave if she wants. Have her talk to the military pastor/preacher. He can help her.
On that note...make sure she wants to and she's not just echoing what you want...this less than honorable discharge will follow her everywhere.

First, that sucks! No one should have to be in if they don't want.

Secondly, there is no such thing as an Infantry Supply Clerk. Women are not allowed to join the infantry in way shape or form. There are cases when a female soldier can be assigned to an infantry unit, and supply or admin is likely their job, but it's extremely rare.

If by chance she does stay in and stick things out, make sure takes advantage of the GI Bill. That can help pay some of her way to being a veternarian. If she really wants out, all she has to do is get pregnant. When a female soldier becomes pregnant, it is standard to offer the soldier an opportunity to terminate her contract. That is an extreme measure, but it is a way out.

there are a few things wrong with this whole story....first of all, maybe her dad forced her into joining but she is a person too and had the right to say no...also, the recruiter shouldnt have allowed that..my husband was a recruiter and they were taught that the only people who can MAKE you join, is a judge if you are getting convicted on something...

as far as getting out of the bootcamp and army, go luck...some of these people on here dont know what they are talking about...she can go to the chaplain all she wants and beg and plead, they will not and do not have the authority to let her go...the only true way to get out is if you get seriously injured or they find you a danger to yourself or others, which means you would have to go through a psych evaluation...then if she does that, she is going to have that on her record and her discharge will be UNCHARACTERIZED, not an honorable one....

thats the honest truth, so the recruiter screwed up, the father is messed up and the only way out for her is getting a psych evaluation, and those half the time will find that you are capable of continuing your service...she might have to chalk it up and take it, sorry to say

How many years did she sign up for? She could turn this around in her favor and see if she can change MOSs for the Veternarian area of service. It's a long shot, but worth looking into.
On the other hand, she might talk to the unit Chaplain and explain what happened. OR she could just plain "flunk" basic and they'll hand her discharge papers.
BTW, I've been with the US Army for 34 1/2 years and it's always tough at first, but if she changes her atitude and makes the best of it, she might surprise herself, her Dad and you. It not that bad a life, good pay, good benefits, etc. Think about it.

Well she has to sign the documentation, so if she didnt want to enlist, shouldnt have signed. At this point she has some options...she can fail at her MOS school, try to approach her chain of command and ask for a chapter discharge, she could become gay and outwardly express that. There really is no other easy way besides addressing it with her COC, but they may have a deaf ear.

There is no such thing as an infantry supply clerk. She can either be supply or automated logistical specialist. She has to do her time then get out, its the best thing for her. She could have gotten out before she left for basic but now its too late.

Nobody is ever "forced" to enlist. The entire story sounds bogus.

If she wants out, and doesn't care about the consequences, tell her to smoke a weed. She'll get popped on a whiz-quiz soon enough and they'll put her out toot-sweet.

I never heard of women in the infantry but anyways you could always run away to canada. I say tell her to be a strong woman and pull her four years. Geez it's a job and you'll both have excellent benefits. In fact she could even go to college.

she could have bowed out an ANY time bbefore she shipped out. At 18, she;s considered an adult and therefore lefgallya llowed to do as she wishes, and does NOT have to obey her father.

she's in now, all she can do is serve her time and get out. she can use her GI Bill to pay for Vet school when she's done.
