Those of you who do not believe the Bible to be the word of God- why do you try so hard to find error in it? Are you slightly not sure? Is there a part of you that feels it just may be God's actual word? I am amazed at how many people come on here and try to find fault with God when there is no fault with God. It just reall saddens me..I wish so much you could see the truth of God's word...

The Holy Bible Douay-Rheims Version

With Challoner Revisions 1749-52
1899 Edition of the John Murphy Company

IMPRIMATUR:
James Cardinal Gibbons, Archbishop of Baltimore, September 1, 1899.

Pope Damasus assembled the first list of books of the Bible at the Roman Council in 382 A.D. He commissioned St. Jerome to translate the original Greek and Hebrew texts into Latin, which became known as the Latin Vulgate Bible and was declared by the Church to be the only authentic and official version, in 1546.

The DR New Testament was first published by the English College at Rheims in 1582 A.D. The DR Old Testament was first published by the English College at Douay in 1609 A.D. The first King James Version was not published until 1611. This online DRV contains all 73 books, including the seven Deutero-Canonical books (erroneously called Apocrypha by Protestants). These seven books were included in the 1611 KJV, but not in later KJV Bibles.

The whole Douay-Rheims Bible was revised and diligently compared with the Latin Vulgate by Bishop Richard Challoner in 1749-1752 A.D. The notes included in the text were written by Dr. Challoner.

The DR Bible was photographically reproduced from the 1899 edition of the John Murphy Company, Baltimore, Maryland, by Tan Books in 1971. Eventually, this edition was optically scanned to produce a large text file which this publisher used for creating this website, with the aid of text-processing software.

One important goal of this project was to preserve the original text "as is", without making any changes in the wording, because the original text had the Imprimatur of James Cardinal Gibbons, Archbishop of Baltimore, dated Sept 1st 1899.

The text file was checked quite thoroughly by software written by the publisher for punctuation errors and verses out of order. The index was humanly checked for misspelled words and the corrections were made to the text. However, some spelling errors may still be present in the text. Many verses were out of order in the original file. These have been corrected.

Every effort was made to ensure that this online version is an exact match to the original printed version. No words were added or ommitted from the text, except for correcting errors caused by the scanning process. No words were rearranged. No verse numbers were changed, except in the case of Psalm 9.

Psalm 9 originally contained 21 verses and there were 2 versions of Psalm 10, numbering 1-18 and 1-8. This obviously caused a conflict, so it was decided to make the first Psalm 10 as the last part of Psalm 9 and renumber the verses 22-39. This retains the same numbering as all the Douay Rheims. Note, in the Protestant Bibles the numbering of Psalms 10 through 146 differs by one.

"Those of you who do not believe the Bible to be the word of God- why do you try so hard to find error in it?"

Because we're tired of hearing zealots claim that every single word is true and accurate.

"Are you slightly not sure?"

No. We're sure we're sick of hearing the same old unconvincing sales pitch, and since the only thing that matters to zealots is an ancient book, we're willing to debate on the contents of that book.

"Is there a part of you that feels it just may be God's actual word?"

No, any more than "Plan 9" or "Love Story" are actually good movies.

"I am amazed at how many people come on here and try to find fault with God when there is no fault with God."

It isn't about finding fault with god, just her/his more misguided of followers.

"I wish so much you could see the truth of God's word."

an ancient book written by humans is not god's word. period.

No. I don't believe in the bible. I do not bother to try to find error in it. I do not ever read the bible. I do not care what it says. I am not into THAT kind of fiction.

And no, you wish I was interested in your bible, but the truth is that I don't think there is ANY truth in God's word...

We must all remember-that all these people who think they find errors in the Bible are the same people who think they find missing links in the fossil record. They have been digging up missing links for nearly 200 years. Only problem, just like the errors in the Bible, they all seem to disappear under scrutiny.

I do not seek to cement my disbelief in the bible by looking for flaws, but rather to introduce you to the idea that the bible is not any sort of spiritual truth, and therefore release you from your ignorance. I do not believe in a god, and I hardly need a false holy book to dictate such beliefs.

The only fault the bible could possible have is that wich man has put into it.

JOY TO THE WORLD THE LORD WILL COME.

In order to convince believers that they are deluded. Finding the errors is trivially easy; convincing the believers is not. Even one demonstrated error would kill the idea of it being god's word; in actuality, there are hundreds.

People are afraid of that which causes us to come to terms with our self, therefore we look to see if we are able to find a way around to what we want to be true or not true..

If you're going to live your life based on something, shouldn't you be sure it's actually right instead of take it as it is even though no one alive can tell you for sure that any of it's fact?

That's why you look for error.

It's like having a stranger come up to you and say something like "Come into my car, you know you can trust me" and then being stupid enough to actually get into their car.
