From what I've read, smoking is actually anti-depressive, and that smokers are, in a way, medicating themselves to feel better. (This fits with the answer given above from the guy who said he got depressed when he *quit* smoking.)

The anti-smoking drugs, like Zyban, were actually developed as antidepressants. During clinical trials, the subjects who smoked noticed a decreased urge to smoke and -- bam -- the antismoking pill was born.

There was a study which demonstrated that the substances in cigarettes have antideppresive effects. Well otherwise why would deppresive smoke? I am smoking too when nervous or depressed

yes im pretty sure it can. the weird thing is i have been smoking for as long as i can remember and i tried to quit and i was so depressed after like 3 weeks i smoked again. i felt like i couldnt get out of bed and that i was tired all the time.

Yes.
It slows circulation. Decreasing blood flow to the brain.
It also stimulates dopamine levels....which eventually crash, making you feel more depressed.

probably, they blame everything on smoking. expecially if they don't know the cause.
