my bf sometimes has headaches. he says he does not hear well and after 3 to 5 hours it goes away. he says the doctor told him to consume less beer, and he also told him that he can rest in a room with or without lights on. he says it is not a migraine, and the doctor told him it goes from his nose to his head and ears. what could this be? i insisted on him to tell me what he head but i got no answer.

Don't just go trying stuff like sinus medications. It could be related to high blood pressure. He needs to have his blood pressure checked during one of these episodes. If BP is normal, then I would concur with everyone else and agree that he has either a sinus or inner ear problem (both typically go hand in hand). As far as him shying away from the beer, don't really know why the MD would suggest that, unless he also thinks maybe high BP or unless your bf is consuming a case or 2 per day.

It is only migraine (and bear in mind this condition is NOT a bad headache but a neurogical condition that is extremely debilitating when it strikes) if he suffers really acute pain that requires him to lie down in a dark room and can also be accompanied by photo phobia and noise sensitivity, vomiting, nausea and sometime aura, which means vision disturbance and other neurological problems like numbness on limbs and inability to speak.

The inability to hear is interesting and that makes me think he may be suffering migraine but it all depends on how bad these headaches really are.

It may just be bad sinusitis.

I would send him to a different doctor, someone who will actually do something to help him...failing that, the next time he has one of these "attacks" take him up to A&E.

It does sound likes sinus troube to me, I would get the same kind of sensations as well and what i do it relax in a steamking hot bath and let the steam do its magic.

Sounds like there's a problem in his sinuses. Didn't the doctor recommend any treatment? Sounds a bit odd.

Sounds like he's suffering with his sinus. Try taking a good decongestant (read the instructions first).
