They do give it a chance. They just sit there whistling with their fingers in their ears while it's going on.

They think science is corrosive to religious belief. Therefore, it must be wrong. The evidence is irrelevant. They aren't looking at the evidence and making an informed decision; they are making a decision and then taking a skewed look at the evidence. It's a totally backward way of thinking.

P.S. I'm obviously talking about ignorant fundamentalists here. There are plenty of christians who have no problem with science. They just don't have the political power the fundies have right now.

I think it may be the other way around. I'm a Christian, and it's news to me that, in today's society, Christians would oppose science. I have never encountered any who do so generally. But I have to admit, I've met some strange people with strange beliefs, both religious and non-religious, so I guess it's likely that some Christians oppose science in general. On specific issues, like creation, opposition is natural, and can be expected, but it goes both ways.

Logical people would be familiar with science. People familiar with science would know that many scientists are Christians. This is only logical. Secondly, Jesus spoke of His second coming and what people would be doing at that ONE POINT IN TIME. The things He said they would be doing, they do at all hours of the day...and yet the 2nd coming occurs at one point in time!Logically, it follows that he knew that the earth was round and that parts of the world would be in the darkness of night while others would be in the light of the sun! This was long before man determined that the earth was round! You must ask yourself this question: Did Jesus have access to a truth that no one else had access to?

Christianity is science and science is Christianity. God made the universe and all it scientific parts. The bible is based on cause and effect. Isn't that science?

They do not like to let themselves be distracted by anything as inconvenient as a fact. In olden times, many scientists had religious beliefs, but it is not possible to do so now: the business of science is to figure out how things work so that predictions can be made, and incorporating "Then a miracle happens" into a predicttion just doesn't cut it.

I wouldn't put all Christians into this group, but boy howdy to the ones who oppose science not know how to shut up!

I think it comes from being taught to fear of anything that is not their way of life. Some denominations/congregations teach, although they won't admit it, fear of anything different, AKA - if they're not one of us, they're going to kill us or force us to convert (yet, they sometimes advocate the same sort of thing), corrupt the children, whatever. It all seems to stem from ignorance. In this case, it's not a case of merely not knowing anything else, it's the sick pride they take in NOT knowing anything else, and the way they revel in their self imposed ignorance.

They interpret challenges to their faith as soley a method of destruction, rather than an opportunity to strengthen it.

Science doesn't really have that much importance to Christians. If you're assuming that all Christians don't believe in science (evolution etc…) you'd be wrong.

Same reason I guess science doesn't give Christians the same.

Serious comment here.....BOTH require a certain degree of faith.
