I would say that it depends on where you want to go. For domestic US flights I recommend Southwest Airlines and Jet Blue. Although with such airlines there are no frills, full meals are unusual, and seating may be on a first come first seated basis.
I use websites like Yahoo travel, expedia, travelocity, priceline, etc... to find the best rate, since in the end all airlines are about the same, unless you have some sort of rewards program with a specific one then it is to your own advantage to travel with them even if it costs more.

Have fun wherever your headed.

Depending where you are flying to & for how long the cheapest airline would be, the one with the cheapest fare on the day of travel using all the aids available or at hand.

Any small airline. Try Aerlingus / Easy Jet / Emirates...I generally always try Flight Centre first and then compare there fares with the other smaller airlines....but booking in advance is a good option. If I knew if you were flying from London to ? I could answer this question a whole lot better.

The cheapest ticket I have ever bought in the US was $25 from Tucson Arizona to Los Angeles, CA, in the US. (May 2006)

When I was in Indoesia in May I got a ticket for $18 USD from Solo to Surabaya. I believe we flew on Air Asia.

It does depend on the route you want to fly. To hong kong its got to be the new low cost airline - OasisHongKong which began on 25th of last month. A ticket can be as low as £141 one way which includes meals! Thats got to be a very good deal.

depends where you are and where you want to go!!! Europe, people swear by Easyjet, or Ryanair (depending the destinations) but the bigger airlines have started to fight back and we have got cheaper faires with British Airways than with Easyjet from London - Geneva.

Airtran has always been really affordable. But it's hub is in Atlanta so it almost always has a stop there.
