Polydactyly is generally considered a fault by breeders. So a pure bred cat with polydactyly is likely worthless. The trait isn't as rare as some people seem to think, and the trait is dominant. I'd be careful of anyone selling them as the cats are likely inbred. A reputable breeder isn't likely to breed a cat with this trait. Also some of the mutations that cause it are crippling to some degree. (Most polydactyly lines are fine.)

This isn't any reason to avoid buying an adult stray with extra toes as any crippling will be evident, and most strays are mix breeds. (Mix breeds tend to be healthier than pure breeds.) I'd expect that any major shelter in a large city will have a fair number of such cats. Talk to the people running the shelter, and stop by every week or so.

The extra toes do not necessarily make it a more valuable cat monetarily. We have a polydactyl domestic short hair that we adopted from a city shelter for maybe $15.00, however, to us she is worth the world.

"Polydactyl" cats are cats with extra toes. They aren't "worth" any more than a cat with the normal number of toes, but sometimes people look specifically for the polydactyl cats because the extra toes are an interesting anomaly and great conversation piece.

We have three polydactyl cats available for adoption at the moment. See our website at www.fetch11.org/gallery.html

polydactial cats are very common so I can't see that they'd be worth more.
