We all know that there are some who think the christians are silly for believing in god and all that that entails. Many of us have rolled our eyes after reading some particularly pious statements that strike us as completely off the wall.
After doing some catch-up reading out here today, it struck me that I'm more saddened (among many other things) by references to satan than I am by just about any other christian concept, no matter how wacky it may appear to me.
Although I belive in neither god nor satan, I find that I'm more appalled by those who see the devil everywhere (in hypnosis, in psychic phenomena, in yoga...) than I am by anyone spouting gospel 24/7.
So apparently god has more credibility for me than satan. Where do you stand?

People have turned Satan into something evil and because it is this "Satan" it is alright to hate it. They invented a story with which to show how evil this Satan is and then they label the "other" as Satan. Remember when Black people, Indians, the Chinese, etc. were all little satan-spawns and devil worshippers. It turned from people of other cultures to people who used other technology. If you have to create an imaginary being to allow you to hate that's fine with me. I guess it's just masturbation for the soul.

Dark and Light.
There is no dark side (satan), just a lack of light. Turn a light on and off in your room. The power is in the light isn’t it?
Try turning darkness on and off. It’s impossible. You either have the power of the light or a lack of it.
So you either live empowered by the light, (God, Goddess, Great Spirit, Allah, what ever you want to call the Universal power) or you muddle along in the dark un-empowered.
I think you will find that religions, and especially fanatical religions, tend to separate and divide people, whiles spirituality brings people together. Please don’t confuse religion for Spirituality and God!
Thank God that Spirituality is on the increase!

I'm an: atheist, satanist, nihilist, and chaos mage.
Definately Satan, if only as a symbol. The Christian version of YHVH is totally illogical and unbelievable. The Jewish version isn't so wrong but still...

Good question.
I believe in the reality of the one true God, and in salvation thru His Son, Jesus.
I also believe that there is a satan (aka deceiver, distractor) who has created many false gods (hatred, greed, lust, power, allah, etc) to keep us from the love and mercy of God.

They have to believe in Satan, for the less sophisticated believer it is the only way to reconcile the problem of evil.

Just remember that Satan is the best friend the church has ever had, for he is the one who has kept it in business all these years!
