You do understand that lowlights and highlights are two different things-right?lowlights is color and highlights is lighter pigment(bleach, higher levels of color that make darker hair lighter) So, I dont understand why you would do lowlights and color? But when you are doing two or more colors or highlights at the same time professionals use foiling techniques. They weave out strands of hair to place highlights or color and use foil for these strands. In between foils some hair is left (depends on how heavy you want) then the stylist will go between the foils and place the darker color or your natural color to blend and cover up regrowth.
Hope this helps

They first do the lowlights by painting them with color and wrapping them with foil strips. Then they put hair dye on the remaining hair (that is not in the foil). This keeps both colors separate.
