I know this is really early but I just thought of it and I don't want to forget to ask. I need a really cute idea of how to decorate a cake for Christmas.

You can buy different shaped cake pans at your local craft store. But to get the full effect of the character you have to ice the cake just right. I suggest using a star tip for your icing bag. Keep in mind that this little project can take a while so be patient.

It can still be simple and look great. I won a cake decorating contest with a plain white cake base with orange flowers and mint green leaves. So either a Easter theme or done in school colors or theme would probably be good.

Go to King Arthur Flour's web pages. They have a really cute Yule Log cake. There's also lots of other great ideas there and you should check out their baking catalog. I have used this site in the past and it's really good.

Have fun!

Fresh, dried or fake flowers look great on a cake. Also ribbons wrapped around the cake are cute too. It can be festive and classy.

Every year I want to try the Yule Log with the merangue mushrooms but it looks so tricky. I have a cathedral bundt pan and make my snowy cathedral cake instead. Snowy = sifted confectionary sugar on dark chocolate cake.
