Many things could, and I stress could, cause a lump in his neck. Most commonly I would suspect an enlarged lymph node which is usually caused by any type of systemic body infection. By this I mean infections as innocent as the common cold to more serious infections such as infections of the blood caused by bacteria entering the blood from a cut or other means. Lymph nodes are usually found on either side of the neck within the soft tissue beside the trachea (windpipe/Adam's apple). If this is his problem, and his underlying infection is not serious, the lump will disappear with a little time (week or so).
Another real possibility is that it is whats called a goiter. A goiter results usually from a thyroid malfunction. Goiters are not that serious, but do need medical attention. A diet high in iodine will enlarge goiters. A goiter is usually located right in the center of the neck on the front surface, and can become quite large.
Also, your husband may have an infected hair follicle or sebaceous cyst. Both of this are benign, and require little or no special attention. Infected hair follicles can be alleviated by pulling the affected hair and applying antibiotic ointment. Sabaceous cysts are essentially the same as an infected hair follicle and can therefore be treated in the same manner if the affected hair can be seen.
Unfortunately, the lump on your husband's neck can also be something more serious such as cancer. With this a real possibility, I would suggest that you consult a physician unless you research one of the above mentioned items and learn without a dobt that he has one of the other problems.

Have a doctor check him out. Since it is growing larger I'd have that taken care of soon. WebMD is a good website to get an idea of what it might be. It could be so many things. Goiters, swollen glands, cancerous, .....only a doctor would know for sure.

it could simply be a growth or a tumor. whatever it is if it is growing that is usually not a good sign. Also look at its color and shape, uneven tones or shapes are also a bad sign. Take him to the doc to be safe.

My friend had that. In his case it turned out to be a tumor in his thyroid. He had it removed. Thyroid cancer is fairly easy to treat and has one of the highest cure rates.
