he's a great guy in every way, and i don't want to turn him down just because i have some unrealistic idea about what love should be... at the same time, it would be selfish to give him the wrong idea if i can never grow to love him... what should i do?? is love at first sight really such a huge deal?

It IS possible to grow to love someone. You are very wise to realize that people construct preconceived notions of what love actually is. For a marriage to last, both partners need to be committed to each-other and lets face it, decent guys are hard to come by. Snag him up before he moves on.

It may be possible...to grow to love someone, but that's usually w/a non-romantic tie (like a step-parent, bro-in-law, etc.) When it comes to 'matters of the heart', I think it's best to go with your instincts and not try to force affection. If you simply don't want to pursue a romantic relationship with this particular guy, I think you're right to be straightforward about that. In that case, he'll know up front, won't have unrealistic expectations, and can spend his time finding someone that can visualize themselves liking him. You may have a friend and/or relative that you could introduce him to instead. Otherwise, you risk losing what could be a really good friendship by trying to date him. AFter he gets over the initial hurt, he'll understand and respect you for it. Good Luck

First there is only lust at first sight.
You grow to love someone as you experence different changes and challenges of your life together. It is lifes journey that will take you to the extreme to see if you can to the long end of it.
Love guides you through, but Love is many things that you will learn about along away and develope deeply from one another.
If it is strong enought to carry you through, it will last a life time and that is better than love at first sight. Everyone looks pretty in the beginning, but it is the big picture that you need to look at in the end.

it's not possible it's inflamation and love takes a long time to have its either that or lust, so he may think it's love when it's not, but give it sometime 3 months and nothing changes then move on

love at first sight isnt as cracked up as it used to be.
of course you can grow to love someone, thats not much of a problem
it seems like you cant find much wrong with him.
but you know, your ideals are yours to keep, so personally, if it was just dating, sure.
but i wouldnt sacrifice my ideals too much if i were you.
