commissioning engineers are well paid and generally engineers should be earning £225 - £300 per day as agency engineers depending on experience . Off shore rates will be higher

The truth is NONE. Even the ones that make over 100K are ones who either have been working over 30 years or live in high cost of living areas, where companies have to pay them more. But nobody goes into engineering if they want to be RICH. You can live a decent lifestyle but you are not going to make as much as a Doctor makes which if you ask me is total BS. Doctors wouldn't be so GOOD, if they didn't have all those fancy equipments we make for them.

The level of compensation is partially dependent on where the job is located.
If you're pursuing engineering "for the money" ... don't. There's a LOT of better ways to make a huge salary with far less effort.
Engineers usually start out with reasonable salaries - but in industry, they tend to top out fairly early and then their compatriots in other realms begin out-earning them.
