For God to be God, he has to be superlative, ie the best at everything. Is he wasn't people would worship someone different. God is all-powerful, and yet he does not stop suffering on Earth? Does this mean he is all-powerful, but not all-loving as he does not stop disasters, or does this mean that he is all-loving, but without the power to help us?

That's a very good and oftenasked question.
If you're serious about trying to find an answer to this question I'd definitely recommend Richard Dawkins' new book: The God Delusion. It's a very interesting read and can be read by anyone of any religion or indeed if they are of no religion as yet.
hope to have been of help.

God is all powerful and all loving. Even though there is suffering and disaster on this earth God is still in control. Suffering and disaster and trail come to make us stronger, to build our faith. God has the power to do and stop all things. It's not my job to question everything that God does, I know that he has a reason for some of the people that's starving and being beaten and countries that are contaminated with AIDS. My job is to pray for them and believe that God will make a way for them to come out of poverty, sickness and disease, and to be thankful the many blesses that he's bestowed in my life, because if could of been me.

This is probably the best question on Yahoo! Answers for all time. I have a theory about this. God either does not know about humans' suffering, he does not care about humans' suffering, he is not powerful enough to do anything to stop humans' suffering, he is dead, or he does not exist. I am an atheist, so I believe that god does not exist. But let's say that I DID believe in god. If I believed that, then I would also believe that god does the things he does because he enjoys watching us suffer. God supposedly created all of us, yet, he does not do a single thing about ANY of our problems. He DOES, however, cause natural disasters which cause IMMENSE damage to property and kill tons of people. It's the exact same thing as a mother that abandons her children, then, every once in a while, just to wreck things for them, she throws giant rocks through the windows of the house, which cause destruction to the house and kills her kids. I can also answer your question by posting a quote from an episode of "South Park":

Stan : "Why would God let Kenny die, Chef? Why? Kenny's my friend. Why can't God take someone else's friend?"
Chef : "Stan, sometimes God takes those closest to us, because it makes him feel better about himself. He is a very vengeful God, Stan. He's all pissed off about something we did thousands of years ago. He just can't get over it, so he doesn't care who he takes. Children, puppies, it don't matter to him, so long as it makes us sad. Do you understand?"
Stan : "But then, why does God give us anything to start with?"
Chef : "Well, look at it this way: if you want to make a baby cry, first you give it a lollipop. Then you take it away. If you never give it a lollipop to begin with, then you would have nothin' to cry about. That's like God, who gives us life and love and help just so that he can tear it all away and make us cry, so he can drink the sweet milk of our tears. You see, it's our tears, Stan, that give God his great power."
Stan : "I think I understand."

This is far too big an issue to answer here. Either you are asking because you are genuinely interested, or you are trying to provoke people. I anm not prepared to judge your motives. If you are genuine, you need to find a believer to speak with. Of all the people you must know, at least one will be a believer, or will themselves know one. Anyone who has a true knowledge of the God of the bible would be willing to talk with you. Please note, I said a Believer, not a religious person, the two are NOT the same thing. A religious person is often a fanatic, a true believer is a kindly lioving helpful person.
Good luck

If you were asking to provoke people, I think you will have succeded

I like to believe there is a god.

and I can tell that God exists when what seems like unrelated and unplanned events all come together and something amazing happens which makes you feel comforted and part of something.

I think that suffering is something that is part of free will. A lot of suffering is caused by people who are thinking of themselves and not others. It is a choice they have made. God has given us the choice to do what we want. If a person chooses to harm others then that is their fault, not God's.

First of all I don't think you care about an answer>

God is all powerful and all loving.

See God gave authority to Adam and Eve in the garden, but when Adam and Eve fell into satan's trap and sinned against God, they gave the authority to satan. God has actually bound Himself by His own word. Scripture says He holds His word above even His own name.

Since satan has legal authority here God won't interfere but he will intervene if His children ask him to. God does stop disasters if people ask Him to,

yet everyone wants to blame God instead of satan for the bad in this world. Study a little and you would know this.

God's love means that He desires our love and worship more than anything, but he wants us to CHOOSE to believe, have faith and love him without being told or forced to. The only reason there is suffering in the world is because of choices made against the Lord's will. And because of ignorance. 'Through lack of knowledge shall my people perish' or something.

God,"is" ,Powerful,Knowing and the Creator.
What you forget is HE created the Angels, before HE created,us and a few Angels, lead by the most important Angel , (lucifer the light bearer) whom ,GOD,created.(obviously)!
Decided to "reign"on earth, (the rebellion was in HEAVEN) because thy saw how beautiful,GOD,had made Earth, for HIS own image to live here.
GOD has kept lucifer on earth, along with his, following angels.
Until lucifer rectifies his mistake,of believing he is GOD and that he is the angel that brought ,humanity its knowledge.
Quite the opposite happened.
GOD gave lucifer and the other command, angels,a specific task.
To look after us humans(our's is the image of GOD).(not an angel)
Lucifer decided he was in command of earth and was able to direct our future.
When GOD heard about this he told lucifer he would have to return us to our rightful state.
Or he would not be allowed back to HEAVEN.
Lucifer declined to do GOD'S will and was told to stay on earth until he, lucifer, rectified his wrong.
Therefore to look at the suffering of our world , all you have to do is look at an Angel , great and, very, very ,very mighty and who through GOD'S purity,is still! allowed to judge in GOD'S HEAVEN
for ,or against us

The evill that you talk about and see,as we all do is not ,from"our CREATOR"that would be horrible and totally absurd,it is from ,a,created being. "who is too big for his boots"
We have been made in GOD'S image",A little lower, than the Angels"
An angel is a created being,as is the image of GOD(us).
Angels serve GOD.
" We are not GOD", we are GOD'S image.
But lucifer decided to go against GOD,and not for our wellbeing.
Hence all the suffering we see and will come to see.

Until we accept that bad comes from an angel, more powerful than us.
And if we accept this ,we can counteract lucifer and his trying to destroy, you and me,and the beautiful, earth.

JESUS,said,that lucifer(i reckon he (JESUS)knows lucifer,better than , we do),After what?.2000years+.
That he ,lucifer,is "a liar and the father of lies and a murderer"
(Biblical quote,from Jesus.)

Please take your pick.
Whom do you wish as your very.very.best friend.

An angel that is created by GOD to serve GOD and you GOD'S image.
Or an angel,who,thinks,above ,it's creator.

He is all powerful and all knowing. He allows suffering on earth because he has given man agency. Man may choose to wage wars, hurt those around him, but because God has given man agency he must hold his hand, if we ask for his help he will help us. When we see a child starving we see pain, when God sees a child starving he sees one of his children returning to his eternal rest. Part of agency is that there must be more than one path to choose from, hence the devil, who is the father of lies, the devil tempts us to do wrong, which leads to pain and suffering, Jesus shows us what is right and good, and asks us to serve him, if we do we will find happiness.

So mostly there is suffering on earth because God gave man agency and we can choose to do good or evil.

hope this helps to answer your question.
