My daughter would be just turning 4 when the baby would be born if my husband and I conceived this month. I am wondering if that would be the ideal age spacing so they still have enough in common and get along or should I wait until my 1st starts kindergarten as I have had this recommended as well. What do YOU think?

I have heard that children closer in age grow a tighter bond. I am 5 wks pregnant and my daughter will be 16mos when the baby is born. I don't plan on another pregnancy for a couple of years after that, but if this goes well, I might go ahead a use similar spacing with the next two, If there are two more.
It's really a very personal decision. Just like deciding when to have the first!

My kids are just over 3 yrs apart in age. My sister and I are just under 4 yrs apart. There are pro's and con's to any age gap. It actually took me over a year to get pregnant the second time, we had aimed to have kids 2 yrs apart but it just didnt happen that way. I love the 3 yr age difference. They are close enough to be friends (they are 14 and 11 now), they can watch a movie together or play a game, but they are far enough apart that they are still doing very different things and have different peer groups. My sister and I were always close even though we were just under 4 yrs apart but we were never in school together, I graduated before she came in as a freshman so that kind of stunk.

Children have and have not gotten along no matter how many years or months separated them. No ones "recommendation" is correct for you and your DH unless you choose for it to be. If I had mine to do over I would have had a couple more and that would have made them closer together. I have 3children, 24, 22 and 15. I loved the sound of the screen door slamming, running feet, with an excited voice saying. Look MOM I caught a grasshopper.....oops.

I think three years apart, that way you can get the first out of the terrible two stage, and when the 2nd is born, the first child can be "your little helper" which still gives you bonding time with that other child. I think it is good to have a few years in between, that way, each child will get the attention they deserve!

It is really up to you. What ever you think is best with your child and how they would react to a new baby. I was four when my parents had my brother and i felt not included. My daughter is now 7 and she is very happy and excited to have a new addition to the family. Im happy that i waited but also sad that i think i waited too long.

its really up to you.

my one friend concieved her second child when her first was 7 months old or so.

my mom and her twin are less than a year younger than their one brother!!

i'm about 17 months younger than my one brother and the next sibling is less than 3 years younger than i am.

so to wrap it up. it all depends on if you want to have then close in age so they will have more in common like you said or do you want one to be more of a "boss" type of figuare in the other child's life.

*my one uncle graduated HS before my dad was even in elementary school!!*

I would have to go with two. That way the kids will have a playmate with each other and you can save ur eldest's clothes, etc to pass down to your little one
