This woman also suffers from acute paranoia, varying degrees of depression and self-loathing.

Let me rephrase, it is not a religious ritual, she has covered all of the mirrors in her home with aluminum foil. See above info for other history.

Sounds similar to schizophrenia or some type of psychotic disorder. However if this is a new behavior that just started out of the blue it could be some sort of medical condition or reaction to a medication. Either way encourage some follow up with a doctor.

It could be a jewish tradition following a death, it could also mean someone is having identity issues or self image problems. I would talk to the person.
Maybe they are just tired of cleaning them, maybe they are going through a process of meditation which they are trying to find a new perspective, by not dwelling on the past or present.
Maybe it is just an experiment to see how much losing weight or a change in diet will affect their look. I saw that done in the reality show "the swan".
I wouldn't jump to a mental condition just yet, is this someone you know or something you are reading about?
Best answer.... go ask a psychiatrist, call a mental health hotline and ask. Sometimes even phoning ask a nurse can help. That is the best way to get to the bottom of it.

No I have never heard of that. But, if she already suffers from acute paranoia, chances are that she covers her mirrors for that reason. Maybe she thinks someone is watching her through them, maybe she just doesn't want to look at herself. Paranoia is no joke.

I have seen it before. Thought the government was watching them through the mirror--as if it were two-way. Had to take the person to a mental health hospital for inpatient treatment.

Are you sure it's a mental condition?
Some cultures cover all the mirrors when a family member has died and they are in mourning.
