I think you are getting your religions confused. A rosary is used for prayer, a mantra is a chant of a deitie's name or a statement about God or nature.

A prayer is like this: Lord, please bless me today.

A chant is like this: Lord, ruler of all.

Prayer is for "speaking" to God.
Chant is for speaking "of" God.

I take it you mean on a Buddist rosary, right? Not a Catholic one? I think you pray/chant the same way. One chant/prayer per bead.

matt 6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

this silly old atheist thought such chants were a sin to Christians.
