Follow this link to the Butterball web page and they can answer all of your questions and give you help with planning a holiday menu. You'll need a roasting pan and some aluminum foil to cover the turkey so it doesn't get dry. You can buy disposable roasting pans at the supermarket. Good Luck!

You should get you a cooking bag for turkeys. They have the different sizes to fit your turkey. Follow the directions and you will have a moist cooked turkey. Now what I do before I put the turkey in the bag is wash it off real good. Make sure that you take the bag with the extra turkey parts out of the turkey before cooking. I did not know that when I first started cooking a turkey! (Ha! Ha!) Than after that rub it with butter and season with season. I like to use onion and garlic powder. Salt and pepper. Than follow the directions on the cooking bag. It will turn out perfect! Have a Blessed holiday you and your hubby!

Congratulations Mrs. Kristen! Now this is NOT rocket science !!

Everyone has given good suggestions, links, and advice... ONE suggestion I will add is: Get a small turkey NOW and do a practice run !! You can learn from it and have turkey meat to put in the freezer or sandwiches for your new husband.

Roasting Pan, rack, and a Baster are your tools.

NOW, a few errors to avoid:

1) Make sure your Roasting pan fits in your OVEN !! make sure your TURKEY fits in your Roasting pan and your oven !! (honest, my sister-in-law made this error one year in a new house).

2) Make sure you defrost your turkey on time if you bought it frozen...

3) The evening before, check your instructions, weight of bird and count BACKWARDS to determine WHEN you need to start !!

I'm a guy... have been cooking my turkey for the last 8 yrs. GOOD LUCK

Congrats, and don't freak out! Cooking a turkey is actually fairly easy. Make sure you buy a large turkey roaster pan (go someplace like Target and look in their kitchen and home aisle). You can get frozen turkeys at any food market, and the best thing about them is they will tell you on the package how to cook them!! You can also go to the Food Networks website and find info and recipes. Good luck!

Sorry, it's quite detailed. Your best bet is to go to Recipes.com. I've been using it for about five years now and love the site. They have the best receipes and instructions and you can also vote or write a review about the recipes. They have tons of receipes for Thanksgiving that will give you great ideas for your first Thanksgiving.

Take a look -- I'm sure you'll like it.

heres the turkey page from foodnetwork.com. there are even videos to watch at the bottom of the page. traditional turkeys are roasted in the oven. i have learned to do non-traditional thanksgivings because unless you are feeding a house full of people a turkey is way too big. Just a breast will feed 4 and you will have leftovers for sandwiches for a couple days.

and don't stress it! its supposed to be a holiday not a stress day.
