I married a man who is 18 years older than I am and we could NOT be happier. It takes work on both of your parts...and if you both want it to work, then it will work--or at least have a greater chance of *making it* together in this world. I with both of you a lot of happiness!

Well first off it matters how old you are. If you're a teenager then no, many people especially your friends will not understand. If you're older then it really shouldn't matter. I do have to question what his motives are though. Not that you aren't completely wonderful or anything but why would he be with someone so much younger than himself? Maybe everything's just as great as it seems but I'd have to wonder what he was thinking.

Wouldn't it be a waste if you let your parents or your friends control your happiness? That's just what most people want to do: control others. I think that since you are an adult now, that you should control your OWN happiness.
As far as the 20 years older goes, you have found out something that most your age will never know.
My advice: keep it a secret and keep it all for yourself. :-)

As long as you are of legal age then all is good right? I have dated older guys before (not quite that old my limit is 10 years older) But everyone has a preference.

I'm actually the older guy in my current relationship and it's good for awhile but it's very difficult when it starts getting to the settling down, having kids, etc... There is just too much to deal with when two people are at such different points in their lives

Hmmmm...Ok first let me ask how old you are. If you're under legal age(18) then I would say that while he might be fun to hang out with, he also has pedophile-ish tendencies. And if that's the case you should get out of the relationship ASAP!
But, if you're in your 20's and of reasonable maturity I say go for it. Live and learn.

first of all, the most important question is ,, How old are you?? if your under 18 its not a good idea to date someone 20 years older, but if your 18 you can pretty much do and see whoever you want.

As long as you are of legal age, and care for this man. I really don't see what the problem is. I know your family might give you a problem with this, but ultimately it is your decision. Just make sure he is not married, because that wouldn't be cool.
