I've noticed that people who have children always seem to have long faces that look like they are highly pissed off (especially the women). Hell I went to Best Buy the other day and every single parent had a face of death like they had some type of serious depression and the young, childless people in the store (14-24) were having a ball and just smiling away. Why is that? Not just at BB but pretty much at every store and/or social setting I go to.

What an interesting observation. I think I'll have to look around too. I don't doubt what you say.

My experience of life was that being a young single person was a lot of fun until people started pairing off. Soon enough nearly everyone was married and I was alone. Being single and in your 30's when so many people are married is not fun. I wanted to have people to love, so I had a family. Now I'm 13 years into having a family, the loneliness from being single has faded and I'm stressed out. I think I'm in a better place, but it wasn't quite the place I envisioned.
.
In the same amount of time as when I was single, I have to earn enough money for three people. Meanwhile, I'm supposed to save a million dollars for retirement. The cost for my two children to obtain degrees comparable to my own will be $740,000 whereas my degrees cost about $18,000 when I got them. Having to schedule activities for three people can be impossible when combined with a job that makes enough to meet the above financial obligations. Not only do non-essential things fall by the wayside, but essential ones do as well. I've missed over ten recommended doctors check-ups, my taxes aren't yet filed etc. Emotionally, I can't spend my entire day doing distasteful tasks. There has to be some enjoyment, but when I try to have some fun, it is hard because I think about all of the work I should do. Then, I feel guilty and unproductive.

I don't know how many others feel the same way, but my experience could provide some of the answer.

What you've observed is true. Parents are happy with their kids - indeed. But, sometimes parents can get get into a way of thinking - Just daydreaming, maybe - about if things were different or better...Not the parents' fault really. I think we've all been that way...somewhere in public....

It's stressful thinking about raising children to be grateful, polite, safe, contributing members of society.

Plus, if you take a kid to a store, they ask for things, and the answer can't always be "yes", and when you listen to whining, it makes you sooooooooooooooo TIRED!!!

Just the same, I try to be upbeat and happy because no one likes a grouch!! :)

We're just tired, thats usually the reason for the long faces. Don't get us wrong we LOVE our children, but... you'll understand when you have your own kids.
