Because Vibhishan knew what was right and what was wrong. From the beginning he has advised Raavan to return Sita to Rama, but Raavan didn't listen to his brother's wise words. So, I don't think Vibhishan 'cheated' his brother. He just choosed a different path from Raavana's.

He did because he wanted to take the side of Righteousness, justice and he wanted to fight against bad without being partial towards his brother. And also being on the side of Lord Rama is the greatest thing one can dream in his time.
Because he has been honest and impartial for punishing raavan even though raavan was his brother we can forgive Vibhishan.

Even if you are given a choice in place of Vibhishna you would have done the same thing. he did not cheat Ravana he boycotted him. Evil has to be boycotte any time and everybody will do it even if they are father and son or brothers or other relatives.
Can you justify abduction of Sita By Ravan?

To my knowledge Vibhishan has not cheated Ravan. He was always on the side of DHARMA. He requested Ravan also to follow the rules of Dharma in case of Sita. But Ravan was blind enough to put an ear to sayings of Vibhishan, because he was always thinking about Sita. In those days women are the persons who used to receive utmost respect. Even in case of Ravan he never insisted Sita to marry him, he used to ask the lady guards to change her mind to marry him. This shows the respect that women in those days used to receive. At the end Vibhishan has no choice to go to the opposition and help Rama. Rama was always on the side of SATYA,DHARMA,and NYAYA.Vibhishan has the right option and helped Rama to gain his strength over DHARMA.

Ravan insulted him in front of the entire assembly. His fault was to give counsel not to get in to conflict with Ram,who was the incarnation of Lord Vishnu, which Vibhishan knew. He was unceremoniously thrown out. He had no other options, but to seek the friendship of Ram who was righteous. In a way Ravan forced him in to hands of Ram. It can not strictly be called as cheating.

Vibhishan never cheated his brother. He took the path of truth and justice.H advised his brother but there was no use.He had the mental courage to correct a king. That's great and admirable. He was impartial too.
