when someone makes a blanket statement about a group of people. I find it interesting that someone who does not know me and will probably ever have the pleasure of making my aquaintance would attempt to offend me or my faith. Doesn't being offend require for the offedee to actually care about the offender's opinion? If that is so then I would think we could all stop getting offended so easily by others opinions and generalizations. Are you with me on this one?

The slur racial or religious, southpaw should be of no consequense. You should not be offended by someone who does not even know you well enough to form an opinion about you and is only looking to antagonize you. I admit I do not like to see certain words posted but I also know that it is something that will eventually be addressed by someone more important than I am.

No passion, I have not been offended but I have seen so many others just get so irate at a question that they should have either skipped over if it was that inflammatory to them or simply taken stock of who was asking the question to see if they were worth getting offended for.

David, where in this question have I stated my religious affiliation or belief system in order to push it down your throat? I could be a mystic for all you know.....and again, don't know you, don't sweat your opinion.

Yes, it is very funny! That's why I am not offended nor do I get upset by such foolishness on their part and their lack of morals. I love the fact that a group of people are worried about me and dwell on my beliefs 24/7 daily. It strengthens me more and more.
I thank them gladly!
Shalom

A, perhaps, non-religious statement that applies to all this:
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
I have had a couple of atheist friends and many friends who do not believe as I do. There were days when we could talk about these things and there were days when we could "trade insults" with a smile because under it all we had respect for each other.
Now we live in a world which is highly polarized in spirit but pressing together under the expansion of knowledge, technology and global commerce. It is a pressure cooker and it is cooking all of us -- and if we get a little rain, remember, it falls on the just and the unjust.
I managed to contact one of my old school friends, an atheist still, and sent him a letter. He took great offense at something I said about a situation we were both familiar with. We haven't had any contact since to the honor of his request. I was hurt at the time, but I know that the real issue was the direction our lives had taken.
Then to give a full answer to your question I would say that, while our desire may not be to offend, we are in the long run talking not about ideas but directions taken. The roads will sooner or later part and the divorces will sooner or later take place. There is a price to pay and/or a reward to gain for our choices. To think otherwise is to avoid the reality of this existance.
I contend then that we are in a time and position where offense is almost a foregone conclusion. People justify their very purpose on the basis of their opinions and generalizations. To change those, even to examine them, is to admit they have made poor choices --
So no -- "we" can't all stop getting offended. As much as I should like to be with you on this one, I feel the offenses will (must) come.

Not necessarily. There are thousands of people in this world that have a comment about people or person and don't give a hoot if they get offended or not. They just don't care ... Then there are those who also do the offending and then when it is brought to their attention, then they realize the harm they are in-flicking. But by then the damage is done. It doesn't matter what we do or say ... man kind will always criticize their follow human being.

I don't care if I offend faith or beliefs. Faith and beliefs are not immune from criticism and ridicule.
The problem is that most people take this as a personal attack.
I really try to be careful not to lump all people onto the same plate, though.

God tells us we are not to be offended by others. People even rejected Jesus. As long as their is in in the world, people will offend. If we react, we end up usually offending them back, and its wrong. We dont repay evil with evil. We are to let it bounce off our backs and move on. Only what God thinks of us is of serous importance. If we know we are following Him, then thats all we need. Letting someone offend you is a choice. Took me years to get this one. devil loves to deceive, hey? and people who are wnting only to hurt have been hurt back. This is because they have hurt. WE are to look over it, forgive them and pray, and try to see how we can help. But, God doesnt require any of us to be a doormat to anyone. So, we dont have to stand and take abuse ovet and over. We can just still extend love and move on.
and you are correct, everyone needs to stop being so easily offended, and then just try to give love everyone. Wow, what a novel idea. I think I learned that from JESUS> Pass on the good news. Yes, I am with you.... and what did Jesus say as He was dying upon the cross. FATHER FORGIVE THEM, THEY KNOW NOT WHAT TO DO. Ppl act out in ignorance. Forgive them , tell the truth and move on. But NO I dont find it humorous. I find it very very sad. It causes God to cry and that makes me cry too.

I would like to know...if you weren't offended by something somebody said on here then what got you thinking to ask this question? I am never personally offended by anything anyone says about me, even if you knew me personally, you could never fully understand me to pass true judgement. Any assumption you could ever make about me, my beliefs, or my life would be just that.

I agree in general, but it is also true that sometimes people make a comment on a belief, that is not a comment on its believers. I hate Christianity, but not Christians. But it seems that some Christians are never going to accept there is a difference, the way I see it.

Yes it is amusing that people tend to generalize and stereotype but it is also sad and dangerous. I wish they would stop and judge everyone as individuals according to the whole person and not one tiny fragment.
it is said that there are only two kinds of people. those who think there are only two kinds and those who do not.

one should never judge an entire group by a few for if there are good and bad in each individual and since individuals make of groups then it stands to reason all groups are also good and evil.
